Valentine’s Day Family Traditions
Valentine’s Day may be a holiday that is known for the romantics but it is definitely a holiday that you can celebrate with your family. Its all about love and this is a wonderful time to show how much your families means to you as well as an opportunity to show them how to spread the love. The world needs more love and you luckily have the little people in your family to help spread it.
14 Days of Kindness – Brainstorm with your family 14 ways to spread kindness every day before Valentine’s Day. These tasks could include baking cookies to hand out to a retirement home, helping shovel a neighbor’s sidewalk or leaving a chocolate treat in the mailbox for your mailman. Have your children think of ways to spread kindness at school.
Door of Hearts – Everyone loves to hear why they are important to you. A great way to display this is for the month of February, on each of your child’s room doors, tape up hearts that tell them exactly how you feel about them. They can say “I love your smile,” or “I love your laugh.” Fill their door with all these wonderful words about them.
Valentine’s Day Dinner – Host a fancy Valentine’s Day dinner for you and your family. Break out the heart shaped plates, pink table cloth and fancy cups. Make heart shaped pizza, berry punch and serve chocolate covered strawberries. This is a dinner they will definitely not forget.
Scavenger Hunt – This is a special way to spoil your favorite little people. Want to give them a Valentine’s Day gift? Have them go on a fun scavenger hunt around the house for them to find it. Putting clues together is so much fun plus this is a great way to get your kids to work with one another.
Valentine’s Day Gingerbread House – Who says you can only decorate a gingerbread house on Christmas? A Valentine’s Day Gingerbread House is just as adorable and may be even cuter! Grab all the pink candy sprinkles, heart shaped suckers and pink frosting and get to work! Display their masterpieces all month long.
Heart Cookie Decoration Party – Everyone loves to decorate cookies. This is a great tradition to start with your little bakers. Bake sugar cookies that are cut out as hearts. Give them all the supplies they need to make adorable Valentine’s Day cookies. Then package them up for them to hand out to helpers in the community such as teachers, police officers and garbage men.
